The Candle Lab - Gahanna has now closed. Below is our open letter to our customers that explained the store closing. We hope to have a new store opening to announce soon, so check back soon to see where The Candle Lab will appear next!
After a year and a half of trying as hard as we could, we have decided to close our Gahanna location. This has been a heart-breaking process for us, because we have met some great friends in Gahanna. We have lost money every month we've been open out there, and we have reached a point where we don't think that's going to change any time soon.
Our mission has always been about the fun of custom fragrance, but our long-time customers know that we have another passion that anchors everything we do as a company. We strongly believe that viable downtowns in the heart of our communities are a much better economic model that continuing to build newer and better malls around central Ohio. When you can walk down the main street of your community and see your neighbors and shop in businesses with owners you know personally, it builds a pride in that neighborhood and gives those businesses a chance to succeed. We have had remarkable support in Worthington and Grandview, and are humbled and grateful for our customers there.
We were hoping to create that same kind of success in Gahanna, and wanted to stay out there and be a part of the efforts to turn downtown Gahanna into a destination for shopping and dining. Due to the economy, its been a tougher process than expected and we can't support that store any longer. We are closed beginning today, and will focus on our two existing stores for the rest of this fall and holiday season. If you bought a Pour Your Own Candle membership in Gahanna, its still good at our two existing stores, so plan to visit us in Worthington or Grandview this fall to pour yourself a candle and meet our fellow merchants.
We are already in negotiations to open a third store in a different community, and hope to do that by this spring. We have big plans to grow this company and this concept, and those plans have been delayed by the need to support our Gahanna location. With that store closed, you can expect some exciting things from The Candle Lab over the next couple months, so stay tuned!
